About the Artist
Jassim Mohammed currently lives in exile in Damascus, Syria waiting for his refugee visa. Jassim fled Iraq after receiving numerous death threats and being shot by an armed gang. In Syria, at least until recently, he was be able to see his children safe, far from danger, and has high hopes for the future. But now, all that has even changed.
When Jassim paints, he tries to imagine the human form he is painting and hopes to communicate that feeling--all the emotion, attitude, experience- to the viewer with what he has painted. Jassim has participated in many collective exhibitions in Iraq, as well as more than 13 exhibitions in Damascus from 2006 – 2010. His first solo exhibition was in Free Hand Gallery – Damascus 2010, with his second solo exhibition in Intercontinental Hotel - KSA 2010. Jasem has participated in Gharnatah Festival for International Arts 2012 and the Al Burdah reward 2012. He is a golden medal & participating shield winner in the fourth pioneers festival – Baghdad. Jassim has collections in The Syrian National Museum, Canadian Embassy, Swedish Embassy, Indian Embassy, USA and many other Arab & European countries.
