In the northern areas of Mexico, local men are known as 'Gallos,' or 'Roosters.' A classic figure in the area and stories alike, they wear their moustaches and cowboy hats with pride. In this painting, Karla Voelker depicts one Gallo that she recalls from her childhood.

Karla Voelker is a Mexican artist from Tijuana, Mexico. She has been painting since ever since she can remember, and her favorite medium is oil. Karla says that she works largely from memory, so she appreciates that oil colors let her work at a slow speed, letting her memories came to her. All of Karla's colors and subjects are reflections of her Mexican culture, as well as growing up and living close to the border.
