All proceeds from the sale of this painting will go directly to Wadhah Mahdi, a Iraqi refugee living in exile in Syria awaiting a refugee visa to the United States.

In this painting, Mr. Mahdi depicts the image of a woman who displays a hidden beauty which is only visible after absorbing the piece in its entirety. Mahdi believes women are the backbone of society and are responsible for many of the joys in his life, and if they are removed from it, life would have little meaning. He hopes that the purchaser will share his love and appreciation for the beauty inherent in every women when viewed in her entirety. This piece was created during a period when Mahdi was attempting to flee Iraq.

Artist: Wadhah Mahdi

Wadhah Mahdi currently lives in exile in Damascus, Syria waiting for his refugee visa to the U.S. Mr. Mahdi fled Iraq five years ago and has been living in exile ever since. He feels that remaining in Iraq would have eventually led to his death, as he observed everyone else around him being killed. In Syria, Mr. Mahdi paints throughout the day and says that producing art makes him happy but has been struggling to sell his paintings in Syria, as the market for art is very small. To assist this artist, Art Sumo will provide the artist with all proceeds from the painting.

Mr. Mahdi earned a Diploma from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and has had solo exhibitions in Aleppo, Damascus, Abu Dhabi and California. He received a Certificate of Appreciation at the gathering of Arab Youth in Cairo in 1999 and has been recognized with a Certificate of Merit by UNHCR. Mr. Mahdi was drawn to painting from a young age and has always found himself painting the world of colors, depicting whatever that he sees around him.
