In Arabian Days, Asem depicts four arabian horses in full gallop. Asem grew up in Iraq with arabian horses all around him. Horses are what inspired Asem to begin painting and painting them reminds him of happier times before he was forced to flee Iraq.
Artist: Asem Al Mandlawe
Asem currently lives in exile in Damascus, Syria waiting for his refugee visa to the United States. Asem fled Iraq four years ago after being given a death threat from an armed militia. In Syria, he paints to support his wife and three children. In addition to supporting his family, he finds painting therapeutic and feels happiest when wholly enwrapped with perfecting a piece at hand.
Professionally, Asem has always painted horses. His paintings can be found in exhibitions throughout the middle east and in private collections in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates.
