On this quiet, pristine landscape, Ghanaian fishermen slowly bring in their early morning catch along the short stretch of aquiline beach closest to the neighboring town. In Ghana, fishermen often stick close to home while working, preferring the familiar waters of their village rather than venturing too far out along the water or beach. Long brushstrokes illustrate the depth of the peaceful blue sky, compared with the relatively miniature white buildings and people below.

Artist: Abdul Mumuni

Abdul Mumuni is originally from Northern Ghana, but current resides in Accra. Abdul learned to paint after deciding that given his lack of education, it was the best manner in which to earn a living. To study and perfect his craft, he lived with a mentor painter in Accra for three years who taught him to paint; today, as a teacher, his emotions move him. Abdul reports that each painting he produces requires at least three days to produce, as each coat of paint must dry before he is able to add another to convey the depth of the work.
